spiritual gatheringDeiseil: Dancing in Time
An immersive theatrical exploration of Scottish stepdance history, tracing how this percussive dance form nearly disappeared from Scotland only to be sustained and revived through Cape Breton traditions. Created by award-winning theatre director Gerry Mulgrew alongside dancer Alison Carlyle and musician Amy Geddes, the work weaves together fiddle, feet, Gaelic song, and storytelling to chart centuries of cultural continuity. The performance documents a lifelong friendship central to stepdance's contemporary renewal, presenting groundbreaking new work that honors both loss and recovery within Scotland's living dance heritage. Each 60-minute performance concludes with audience conversation and a traditional music session hosted by local musicians.
